Zhejiang University is a key national comprehensive university under the direct administration of China's Ministry of Education. Its ancestry, the Qiushi Academy, founded in 1897, was the earliest institutions of higher learning in China. In the early 1950s’, when national institutions of higher learning in China were being reorganized, Zhejiang University was divided into several individual schools. In September 1998, a new Zhejiang University was established on the basis of the amalgamation of the four former individual universities, namely Zhejiang University, Hangzhou University, Zhejiang Agricultural University and Zhejiang Medical University, which were all located in Hangzhou. With more than a century’s construction and development, Zhejiang University has become a research-oriented comprehensive university with a solid foundation, abundant resources and unique features, standing among the top universities in China, with the significant influence in the world. It was among the first key universities being accepted in the "National 211 Project" and "985 Program".
School of Management in Zhejiang University is an important base for cultivating senior managers and leaders in China. It offers 3 provincial key disciplines, 3 post-doctor stations, 4 doctoral degree programs (3 of which are first class disciplines), 8 master’s degree programs, MBA, EMBA and ME master degree programs. In addition, it has 11 undergraduate majors and co-built with other colleges another five master’s degree programs and an M.P.A. degree program. Since 2000, the university has won over 50 prizes for scientific and technological achievements from the State Education Ministry, State Agricultural Ministry, and the provincial and municipal governments. It has published over 2000 research papers, nearly 200 academic monographs and textbooks as well as various teaching materials.
Being one of China’s 30 experimental universities for EMBA education approved by the State Council Office of the Academic Degree Committee and the Ministry of Education, the EMBA Program of Zhejiang University is geared to the needs of high-level managers and executives in enterprises and government bodies with good education background and rich management experience. The EMBA Program aims to train the entrepreneurs and high-level professional managers with outstanding international strategic perspectives and overall decision-making and leadership ability.
Since the first class opened up in the second half of 2002, many entrepreneurs and top managers at home and abroad joined in the program. The participation of many private entrepreneurs features the program, constituting a valuable network of elites.
